About

As a dedicated immigration attorney, I am committed to fighting for the rights of immigrants and their families. With a focus on removal defense, asylum, and complex immigration matters, I provide strategic and compassionate representation. My goal is to help clients navigate the immigration system with confidence and achieve the best possible outcome for their future.

As a first-generation Cuban-American and fluent Spanish speaker, I have a deep personal connection to the immigrant experience. Since 2013, I have dedicated my career to immigration law, focusing on removal defense, asylum, family-based immigration, and humanitarian relief. I have successfully represented clients from all over the world, helping them fight deportation, secure legal status, and reunite with their loved ones. After 2015, I expanded my advocacy to include family law and criminal proceedings, but my primary focus has always been immigration law.

In 2020, I founded De Armas & De Armas Law, with my brother Marvin, to provide compassionate, results-driven advocacy for immigrants navigating an increasingly complex legal system. My firm is committed to protecting the rights of individuals and families, ensuring they receive high-quality legal representation tailored to their unique circumstances.

Beyond my private practice, I briefly served as a U. S Immigration Judge, gaining invaluable insight into the judicial process before returning to private practice to continue my mission of defending and empowering immigrants. My experience on both sides of the courtroom gives me a unique perspective in advocating for my clients.

Over the years, I have successfully handled numerous complex immigration cases, including:
• Asylum for a Political Activist: Secured asylum for activists from Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela who faced life-threatening persecution in their home country due to their opposition to government corruption.
• Criminal-Immigration ("Crimmigration") Defense: Prevented the deportation of a longtime U.S. resident with multiple past convictions by obtaining post-conviction relief and arguing for cancellation of removal.
· U Visa for a Crime Victim: Assisted a domestic violence survivor in obtaining a U visa, allowing them and their children to gain legal status and ultimately apply for a green card.
· VAWA Petition for an Abused Spouse: Successfully petitioned for legal status under the Violence
• Against Women Act (VAWA) for a client who endured years of abuse from a U.S. citizen spouse, ensuring their protection and pathway to residency.
• Family-Based Immigration with Waivers: Helped a spouse of a U.S. citizen obtain legal residency despite a previous unlawful entry by securing a hardship waiver.
• Appeal Before the BIA: Overturned a removal order on appeal for a client whose asylum case had been wrongly denied by an immigration judge.

I am an active member of the Hispanic Bar Association of Michigan, where I have been involved since 2014, served as president from 2021-2022, and have remained on the Board of Directors ever since. I am also deeply committed to community service, volunteering with local organizations and participating in community events with churches and nonprofits in the Metro Detroit area.

When I’m not advocating for my clients, I enjoy playing kickball and have won the Come Play Detroit league in Belle Isle several times.
